Description
Box of Shogun Warriors – print 11”x14” – Printed in archival, hot press, 100% cotton, acid free paper.
Shogun Warriors and die-cast metal toys bring me right back to my oldest memories. The way they age is beautiful. Enamel paint chipped off, scratches, plastic parts bent or broken. They carry stories of their time being played with, and the journeys through the years to reach the present.
I love piling groups of toys in a box for a painting. It gives the impression that an old drawer has been pulled open for the first time in decades. Or maybe a shoebox in the attic that was thought lost.
At the recent Great American Toy Show a man whose name I didn’t get, asked if I had any paintings with Grendizer. I told him I didn’t, but am always on the lookout for more vintage Shogun Warriors in all their forms. He told me he’d be back next year and if I had something with Grendizer he’d buy it.
A few hours later I took a few minutes to walk around and check the show and halfway down the center aisle I spotted this beat up 3” die cast Grendizer. He was as cheap, and I was happy to buy him.
Later back at my table I stood there drawing my new treasure when the man from earlier who I assumed had left a while ago walked up and said, “Remember, next year, Grendizer!”
I held up the figure. “Look what in JUST bought!” He looked surprised and said, “You’re kidding! Look what I just got!” And pulled out the same 3” Grendizer!
We both stood there buzzing for a few seconds. We commiserated about how much we paid and compared the conditions of each before he left. It was an exciting little moment that left me psyched to get painting.
The original painting was sent to Queensland Australia for a group still life show in June 2026 at Super Wow gallery.
