 I got Soundwave before the others. I was obsessed with how good robot mode looked and the tiny transforming cassettes. He looked like a “real” mini-boombox. His modulated voice made him even cooler.

Optimus Prime was a Christmas present that I wished for with all my will. I never snooped for gifts back then, but did catch a glimpse of a box that I thought might have been it. Turned out to be a DustBuster. The box was the wrong shape.

Finally, I remember seeing a kid playing with Jetfire at recess when it came out. I was obsessed. It was by far the coolest Transformer in existence. Little did I know it was from Macross. I ended up putting Jetfire on layaway at Zayre and going in weekly to pay with my paper route money.
